I see no distinction between an open source work which relies on a 
proprietary OS (such as the thousands of open source projects for Mac 
and Windows) and an open source work which relies on any other 
proprietary elements (such as the MC IDE relying on the Rev engine).

There's the GPL, which could arguably only apply to Linux development, 
and then there's the LPGL, CopyLeft, X11 (which governs the MC IDE), and 
others for works done in mixed-license models.

The MetaCard engine was never open source, and RunRev has done nothing 
to change that.

In fact, under Scott Raney the MC IDE was never open source.  He often 
encouraged people to do what they like with it, but there was no 
explicit policy governing its openness.

So if anything, the acquisition of the engine by RunRev has resulted in 
a more open/free environment than before.
