Sounds like an engine issue.

Nothing related to that has changed in the IDE, and IDE settings are not 
known to the engine.
What changed is that the engine now defaults to native appearance (what 
is mistakenly called "Appearance Manager").

I believe the term "Appearance Manager" is an error, and have been 
waiting for a useful token to take its place.
No operating system currently has an "Appearance Manager".  It was 
created for Mac OS v7.1, and was carried through to OS X only in Carbon; 
  OS X has no such native system, and neither Windows nor Linux ever did.
I can appreciate the historical reasons for using that term, but for the 
modern world it really should change.
There is a request to change it to "native":
