Internet communication through a Firewall

Hi Developers,
I've been busy working in courseware for my classes,
but the internet communication of the courseware
stacks are stopped by the firewall in the computer
laboratory.
Tell me if i'm wrong, but i believe that Metacard
IDE has code to autodetect the net configuration
for the http proxy host and the http proxy port,
because the IDE never fails to communicate to
the stack "tools.metacard.com".
My stacks are not able to communicate to the
internet bypassing the firewall.
What's the code used by the Metacard IDE to
autodetect the net proxy settings?
If i'm wrong, about the autodetection capabilities
of the Metacard IDE, what is the code needed
to connect an stack through a firewall in Windows xp?
Could i find the proxy host and proxy port
somewhere within the XP configuration?
I've noticed that other webs apps bypass the
firewall protection. Could i do the same with
my stacks?
Thanks in advance
al
