Hi,
Both Metacard and Revolution are able to let you build client-server
web-centred apps, even if the learning curve of the web technologies can
need lots of work before getting the bests results. Just have an eye to
the metacard and revolution mailing-lists archives to see how some of us
are building professional-grade web apps, sql databases middlewares or
front-ends and more, in using mc or rev.
