Is there any way to get more detailed info on a volume, from within Metacard?

Such as one would get in the Finder "Get Info" window?

For example:

Kind:  disk
Format:  MacOS Standard
Capacity:  586.3 MB
Available:  zero k
Where:  Goodies, ATAPI CD-ROM, bus 0, dev 0
Created:  date
Modified:  date
Comments:  None

The only info it seems volumes() provides is just the name. 
Presumably one can get the disk space info.  But nothing else?


(I've not had any luck using the cross platform solutions such as 
using Apple System Profiler on Mac and whatever else on PC.  Whatever 
solution must be seamless, without dialogs popping up, and work on 
virtually ANY Mac or Windows machine.)
