I am no authority on MC directories, but I suspect on WIN systems that the 
".." is a hold over from the DOS environmnet. The ".." represents the 
immediately next higher directory. For example, if you are in the following 
directory: 
C:\myFiles\XTalk\MC 
If you type at the DOS prompt 
cd.. 
you will then be in this directory: 
C:\myFiles\XTalk 
miscdas
