Soliciting Multiple Files or Folders

Does anybody know of a way to solicit multiple files or folders?  It would
be nice if you could do something like:

   answer files "Select one or more files to be added to this list."

   or

   answer folders "Select one or more directories to be added to this list."

and get a return dilimeted list of the files or folders which were chosen.
