RFC/Setting Permissions via Rev or Metacard

My thought would be to use "item 6 of line x of the the detailed files" to
get the file permissions (in octal) and then use Applescript to set the
permissions on OSX, or shell(chmod pStuff fileName) on Unix to set them?
