Keydown Displays Button Menu?

Is it possible to open a menu button whose style is either option or
combobox via a script?

My goal is to be able to press a button on the keyboard and display a
dropdown menu.  MouseDown seems to be ignored and I can't find any other
message/command that appears to accomplish this.  It seems like there must
be some way to do this.
