Hi Mark,

First go (but requires manual intervention)
http://www.newcastle.edu.au/services/blackboard/faqs/assessment/
importgrades.html

Bad news:
http://www.math.fsu.edu/~bellenot/talks/vsu02.03/gb.pdf
FSU Blackboard Gradebook disadvantages
*  Can't bookmark the gradebook
* Can't upload a file

Do you need to have the data displayed in the gradebook? You could
have the scores displayed on another page, within blackboard. In
fact, that's the solution adopted by the guy above. He wrote a small
gradebook application to run within blackboard:
http://www.math.fsu.edu/~bellenot/ftp.html
ftp://ftp.math.fsu.edu/pub/bellenot/gradebook-0.5.tar.gz

I can have a look, if you want. But you will have to give me a url
and a login (I don't have access to Blackboard myself to try out).
