Mark,
If you ask me, you are to be commended in double measure for your
efforts! The teachers I talk to tell me of the increasing demands on
their time, and few have the energy or time to learn a program, much
less create something with it. You may be able to be a role model to
them, that you can do something with the knowledge you collect over
the years. And to find you are also reading books to continue to
refine your teaching methods. Wow.
Here's a few other resources you might like in your book bag at some
point:
- The Having of Wonderful Ideas and Other Essays on Teaching and
Learning by Eleanor Duckworth (a professor who was a student of Piaget)
- Critical Pedagogy: Notes from the Real World (about the science of
teaching in the cultural context)
- Informal Education - Conversation, Democracy and Learning (about
mentoring at risk youth)
Since you are an English teacher, you might also enjoy the Harvest
Issue at www.onebranch.org, which is full of references to youth
historical fiction and ideas for student projects.
Best of Luck,
Lisa
