Sterling,
The kids I teach are 16-19 years old. I have successfully taught them
to build aps in LOGO, HyperTalk (HyperCard's language), Visual Basic,
and HyperLogo (HyperStudio's language). Their aps rivaled anything
that I make in Rev, and I plan to teach kids Rev soon. Maybe you were
thinking of younger kids, but Rev should be perfectly suitable for the
ones I teach.
As far as the saving issue, I admit that it threw me for a loop
because I am used to programs that save their own data. In fact,
HyperCard saved automatically whenever there was a change. I was
forced to make a Rev stack that saved data about six months ago, and it
didn't really turn out to be that difficult. I used the substack
method, but I think that saving the data as custom properties would
have been better. Yes, this is an added obstacle to some students
using Rev, but one that is easily overcome, in my opinion and for my
students.
